Gas Bottles & Regulators
All our gas barbecues are compatible with either Propane (Patio) or Butane LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas)
Whether you're new to gas BBQs or just need a refresher, this guide explains everything you need to know about the gas types and regulators compatible with your CosmoGrill barbecue.
Note, NONE of our barbecues come with gas bottles/canisters and some of our models DO NOT come with a regulator and gas hose. Please check the individual product listing before ordering
✅ Gas Types Supported
Your CosmoGrill BBQ is compatible with both Propane and Butane, depending on the regulator used:
-
Propane (G31) – Requires a 37 mbar regulator
🔴 Red gas bottle, ideal for year-round outdoor use, especially in colder weather -
Butane (G30) – Requires a 28–30 mbar regulator
🔵 Blue gas bottle, best suited for use during warmer months
🧠 What This Means
As long as the correct regulator is used, your BBQ can safely run on either Butane or Propane. This flexibility allows you to choose a gas type based on availability, season, or personal preference — making our BBQs suitable for most UK household setups.
🏷️ Understanding the Labels on Your BBQ Packaging
You may notice one of the following gas category labels on your BBQ box:
-
I3+(28-30/37) – Compatible with both Butane (28–30 mbar) and Propane (37 mbar)
-
I3B/P(30) – Compatible with Butane at a fixed pressure of 30 mbar (often used across Europe)
These indicate the approved gas pressure levels and types for safe use.
🔌 Regulator & Hose Information
-
If your BBQ includes a regulator:
You'll receive a 27–28mm clip-on 37 mbar regulator (suitable for Propane) along with a 2m gas hose as standard. -
If your BBQ does not include a regulator:
You’ll need to purchase a compatible regulator and 2m hose separately, depending on your choice of gas. These are widely available online and often sold as a pack.
What gas do you need for your barbecue?
Propane 37mbar 'Clip-on' regulator
If the barbecue comes with a regulator included, you will need to purchase one of the following propane bottles, depending on the number of burners.
[Rule of thumb: 3 or less burners = 5KG+ and 4 or more burners = 10KG+]
- Calor Gas Patio Gas 5kg, 13kg (GREEN BOTTLES + RED HANDLES)
- Flogas Leisure 5kg, 6kg, 10kg (GREEN BOTTLES)
- BP Gas Light 5kg, 10kg (WHITE BOTTLES + GREEN HANDLES)
If you happen to have or plan on buying a 'screw-on' propane regulator, please know the following combinations will work.
Propane 37mbar 'Screw-on' regulator
- Calor Propane 6kg, 13kg, 19kg (RED BOTTLES)
- Flogas Propane 6kg, 19kg, 47kg (RED BOTTLES)
- Flogas Propane 13kg (YELLOW BOTTLES)
If you happen to have or plan on buying a 'clip-on' butane regulator, 21mm is recommended. Please see the following gas bottle combinations below.
Butane 28mbar 'Clip-on' regulator
- Calor Butane Gas 7kg, 15kg (BLUE BOTTLES)
- Flogas Butane Gas 7kg, 13kg (YELLOW BOTTLE)
We highly recommend against buying any butane 28mbar 'Screw-on' regulator as they tend to only work with 4.5kg butane bottles, which will not provide enough gas pressure for any of our models, not even our Compact 2 burner.
